      About Us

Jan and Alan moved to Norfolk during June 2007 for their semi retirement. Both previously lived in Sussex, with four daughters and several family pets between them.

Jan, apart from raising three lovely daughters, (a job in itself), has worked along the way, within the community, in a nursing capacity. Firstly, Jan worked in a maternity hospital for several years, a job she loved. On moving to another part of Sussex, when her daughters were of school age, Jan became a founder member of the village playgroup and supported the village youth centre. After several years she moved on to a nursing support role at the world famous plastic surgery hospital, Queen Victoria, East Grinstead, before joining the local village doctor’s surgery, working again in the community with the district nurses, assisting elderly patients in their homes, a role she found very rewarding. Amongst Jan’s many interests are reading, walking, and more recently learning to become more proficient in drawing and water colour art.

Alan joined Sussex Police as a cadet in 1968 for 2 years. Then left to work with his father in the family building business. During 1974 he re joined Sussex Police as a constable and spent the next 30 years working within the community in various roles, finishing the last 15 years of his career as a dog handler and an accredited Home Office Dog Handler Instructor. His interests are gardening, angling, walking and D.I.Y., the latter having been put to very good use, not only at The Wheatcroft, but also in previously owned homes as well.

Since Alan’s retirement from the police, both have enjoyed travelling to far parts of the world including Kenya, China, Egypt and Peru. Also to various cities in Europe as well as a UK tour in their motor home.

Now is the time for the next chapter of their lives, running a much thought about, friendly and comfortable B & B.
